First Things First...the Roof!

Before we could list our home, there was the matter of some major and minor projects, beginning with a new roof. Our house was built in 1988 and the roof is original, so it was time. I had no idea what a mess it was going to create, but the end result was definitely worth it and we knew it would help in the sale of the house. The architectural shingles were nailed down by hand, so there was ALOT of banging. Four days of banging to be exact. Those men were amazing up there on that roof!

Shingles, shingles and more shingles

The old roof...ugh!

The mess

Off with the old, on with the new (glad they had safety lines, but I still couldn't watch)
Old on left, new on right

Done...and we love it!

  1. That is amazing the difference! We're in the market for a new roof (hopefully next year and not this year), but I can't wait to have the before after like yours!

  2. So glad you're back to blogging! Dave and I will be following your house-selling and moving journey with interest because we'll probably be doing the same thing sometime this year. We wish you the best with it - it's a lot of work. Congratulations on selling the house! Oh - and the white coat ceremony and all the good medical news!

  3. The replacement of old and worn out shingles definitely did a difference! Now it would be easier to sell the house with its improved value. Sure, it had been a messy and noisy work but it's worth it. I wish you luck on the selling process.

  4. Too bad you’re putting this house on the market, it looks quite beautiful after the old roof was replaced. The new roof’s color matched the bricks well. Anyhow, I hope you’ll get a good price for this house. Keep us posted with your selling journey. Missie @ DeShazo Roofing =)

  5. Honestly, the house looks worn out and lonely with the old shingles. Don’t get me wrong. It's not only because they’re old but because of the color; it kind of made the bricks look dull. Anyway, the new ones are absolutely better, they’re light and livelier, and they emphasize the charm of the bricks. Cheers to that!
