Mom and I got up early Saturday morning to make the drive from New Jersey to Long Island. We gave ourselves 5 hours to make the 2 1/2 hour trip because I am truly directionally impaired. Even with lots of prayer, a Garmin, our iPhones, and Mapquest directions printed out, I wasn't confident we could do it! Well...aside from the fact that we took one wrong turn, left with 2 quarters between us and weren't prepared for the toll booths, and discovered that there aren't "Rest Stops" along these highways like in NC, we made it to Medford at 12:00, just in time for our early check-in at the hotel. They gave us a coupon and recommended a nice Italian restaurant just up the road, so off we went to relax and reward ourselves for making it to the hotel in time to eat and change clothes before driving up to Port Jefferson for the wedding!
Everything we had at Pastaria was absolutely delicious and the pizza was the closest I have ever come to what we had when I lived in Naples, Italy. It is owned by an Italian family and the baked goods in the front case as we walked in looked amazing. Here is our lunch, from garlic bread, to spinach salad with warm bacon dressing, to pizza with soft fresh mozzarella, to free creme brulee for dessert, it was the perfect way to begin our stay in NY (We also shared a free cannoli, but we dug into it before I snapped a picture!). If you live on Long Island, you must go there!
Now that I have your mouth watering, I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Maybe you should go out and enjoy some Italian food at your favorite local restaurant. Ciao!
A wonderful lunch after a hectic ride from New Jersey to Long Island. Everything was delicious Wish we could import that restaurant to Wake Forest!
