There's Just Something About the Mountains!

We just love getting away to Boone. Somehow the air is cooler, the food tastes better, the walks are wonderful, the family time is sweet, and the days feel less hurried. We arrived last Wednesday night and have enjoyed every minute of our time here.

Leah, Kyle and Emery came up late Thursday and worked from the cabin on Friday. With Gigi, Grandma and Grandpa available, there was never a shortage of "babysitters" to hold and entertain Emery! She is growing and changing so quickly that we couldn't get enough of her facial expressions and cooing. We began our day on the deck enjoying French Toast that we made with Challah bread, and ended it with a delicious Italian dinner complete with pasta, sauted mushrooms, grilled Italian sausage, garlic bread and salad...always a favorite with Leah!

Saturday we all took a walk on the Greenway which runs by the State Farm fields where Kyle used to play intramural sports with ASU. There are some interesting bridges along the trail, and the dogs loved swimming in the creek. We all took nice long afternoon naps and then put Kyle to work on the grill with flank steaks and corn on the cob. Paired with watermelon and baked potatoes, it was the perfect summertime meal!

Kyle decided to nap in his hammock and enjoy the great outdoors

Tyson was just looking handsome so I had to include a pic of him

We couldn't end our day without a fire and toasted marshmallows, so Kyle collected some wood, got it going, and we all cozied up and enjoyed Emery's first time around the campfire.

Sunday of course we made...MONKEY BREAD! Once again it was a gorgeous morning to eat outside and sip our coffee so that we could take in everything about being in the mountains, from the cool breeze to the busy hummingbirds flying by! All too soon it was time for Leah, Emery and Kyle to pack a lunch and hit the road back to Georgia. We're already counting the days till we see them again!

  6. Linda and EZ, I feel as though I just took a trip to Boone, and after our many days over 100 degrees here in Houston, it was a welcome respite! Thank you for taking the time to post such wonderful pictures. EZ, you're looking good! I recently celebrated my second post transplant anniversary and am hoping this next year will be a good one. Best Wishes, Lovey Beth
