Jumping to Meet the Challenge

A little over a month ago our daughter Leah posted a video of Kyle jumping onto their countertop from a standing position. If you didn't see it, you can take a look here. We were all pretty amazed at his feat. Her 'P.S'. included a challenge for Nick and Marshal to video their attempts because she knew they would give it a try. I refused to be outdone...

To jump onto a counter top from a standing position requires that one be in outstanding physical shape and practice extensive mental conditioning. To demonstrate the latter, here I am preparing for the jump using the one legged Himalayan rooster style of preparation.

Below you see the completed jump. Unfortunately the videographer was unable to capture my jump, but the still photo shows the completed jump. Please ignore the climbing stool that the photographer somehow captured in this picture.  I can verify that it was not used.

Please note that a true jumping master lands on a granite surface on his knees, not on one's feet as demonstrated by Nick. (Also note that no animals were harmed in the making of these photos and video, and we did this at our own risk.)

Hope this gives you a good chuckle. Have a great weekend and please send videos of any attempts to duplicate this stunt!

  1. WOW Ernie I'm really impressed! It must be way more challenging to land on your knees. That move is obviously not for wimps.

I must get into training myself. Step one - remodel kitchen.

PS - Next time wear big fluffy slippers that cast a big shadow over the stool er I mean the floor. ;D

  2. I don't know what is more impressing..that Uncle E made it or that Aunt L agreed to allow this to happen :-).

Now the question is because of Nick's vertical advantage over Kyle, shouldn't he have to jump that much higher for it to really count??

  4. I remember when I was younger .. a long time ago when I was about 18 doing a similar thing onto the back of a truck. My friend demonstrated and then I attempted it. The key as you can see in your video is the swinging back and forth of the arm; however you must remember to move your arm in at the same time you jump, otherwise you will do as I did all those many years ago and hit my knuckles full force as I jumped up! They weren't broke but very very bruised.

I'm inspired to try again now that I have seen what us Super Hero Myeloma people can do ;)

  6. Wow, look at you, EZ, able to leap tall kitchen islands in a single bound!!! I know better than to even attempt it with a stool, though a videoed attempt may win me money on AFV. Linda, your pics of delicious meals and desserts always makes me hungry. I'm wondering if you may have to change the name of this blog to walking with Gigantic EZ though if you cook like that all the time! ;o)
